Day Parking
Check the fold-out map or pdfs of the map for locations of parking spots along the route. They are, of course, designated by a red circled "P". Not all of these are amenable for overnight parking, look for the ones that have the "P" in a black circle for overnight spots. Scroll below to find info about the parking lots for multi day stays.
Update for Bath, NH - Parking has changed from the area next to the fence adjacent to the trail as it currently shows on the map. The new location is just to the left of driveway on the dirt section on West Bath St.

Multi-Day Parking
Leaving your car for more than one day requires a parking space that will not be an issue with the local police departments. A phone call to the local police department can assist you to find a good parking spot, and helped me in putting together the list below! Obviously, although the region is considered to be safe, DO NOT leave valuables in your car. As you would expect, no parking lot owners will be responsible for your belongings. If you are staying in a campground or motel at the start or end of your trip, it is likely that you can leave your car there in an out-of-the-way spot, check with the owners.
Here is where you can park for one or more overnights:
Woodsville:
There is a small Park-and-Ride lot for about 12 cars very close to the trail and to the start point at the Connecticut River, Route 302. It is located on Oak Hill Road, off of Monroe Street (Route 135) near the covered bridge, opposite and downhill from the caboose and The Party Store. Turn into Oak Hill Street and the parking lot will be immediately on your right.
Littleton:
There are 2 municipal parking lots that are good for multiple day parking. They are both located just a block off of Main Street, on Pleasant Street. There is one on either side of the road and they are marked as municipal parking. One lot is about a block behind the JAX JR Movie Theater, the other is behind the Littleton Easy Wash Laundromat. The lots are very close to the intersection between Rt 116 and Rt 302 traffic light.
Gorham:
On Railroad Street, near the town park at the intersection of Routes 16 and 2, is a railroad station museum and some historic railroad cars. With permission, overnight parking is allowed on the side of Railroad Street, across from the park and east of the railroad museum, in the dirt area next to the railroad tracks. To get permission, you just need to stop in the police station and tell them that you plan to park for the overnights. The police station is also on Railroad Street, across from the museum in the big brick building along the west side of the park.
Bethel:
NOTE: The long term parking lot in Bethel will NOT be available during the week of August 2nd-9th due to a big event in that area.
Here is the updated parking info for Bethel from August 2-9:
You can park in a small parking lot that serves the bike-ped path in Bethel, the "Bethel Pathway". It is located at 59 Mayville Road, Bethel, ME. (Also known as Routes 5, 2 and 26). It holds about 10 cars and has some light colored granite rocks around the perimeter. The parking lot is next to the south side of the paved bike path. The pathway goes east about 0.5 mile to the “official" end or start of the xNHAT at Davis Park. Go west to head across NH to Vermont on the bike path over the river on the snowmobile bridge, then wind around and eventually end up going west on North Road.
There is a Shell gas station with a Dunkin Donuts just to the south of the trail parking area. Next to the gas station is Barker Mountain Bikes, a local bike shop.
The Sheriff's office requests that you call them on the day you arrive to tell them that you will be parking there, for how many days/nights, vehicle description, plates, and give them your phone number. The phone number is 207-743-9554, hit option 2 for Dispatch. They will then know you are there for the bike ride and did not “ abandon” the car! Of course, do not leave any valuables in the car!
If Dan or Maura is picking you up for a shuttle to Woodsville, indicate to them that you will be there instead of at the Chamber of Commerce parking lot. I am contacting them, but it does not hurt to tell them yourself!
If you are traveling before of after this time period, you are certainly welcome to park here!
The Bethel Area Chamber of Commerce is allowing vehicles to park for multiple days in their lot which is very close to the recreation path that leads to Davis Park. It is located at 8 Station Place. There is sufficient parking spaces so far this season, so now you DO NOT need to call or email the Bethel Chamber of Commerce to tell them you are parking in their lot. Just show p and park there! All they request is that you park on the far side of the parking lot away from their building. The Chamber Staff are enthusiastic supporters and cyclists, they are happy to give you the parking convenience!!
