Food Along the Way

Trailside Food

Town of Woodsville
Plenty of places to eat on Main Street, right on, or close to, the trail route, everything from fast food to Mexican (The Little Grill Comida Mexicana), seafood (Saltwater Bar and Bistro), plus many more.

GREAT choice for coffee, breakfast, lunch or baked goods:  Gather Together Cafe, across the street from the trail on Pine Street, next to the Dunkin Donuts.

There is now an ice cream truck in the afternoons right near the Connecticut River in a big parking lot next to the town park, north side of Route 302.

Town of Bath
Cross the historic Bath Covered Bridge to find:
The Brick Store: The oldest general store in the USA. Sandwiches, maple products, smoked cheeses and sausages.
At the Hop: Ice cream parlor from yesteryear. (may not be open this season)
Jamie Lynn's Kitchen. GREAT food, local farm-to-table. open Wednesday-Saturday

Town of Lisbon
The food and amenities are on Route 302:
Checkout the Thai Restaurant: (Thai Kitchen), good food!
Get freshly made sandwiches and subs at the deli and  Lisbon Riverside Market and Grocery)
Alway good stuff at the local pizza place: (Lisbon Village Pizza).

Town of Littleton
Lots of restaurants including ice cream, brewery and a diner. Take a walk along historic Main Street and check the options.
Right on the route at the intersection with Route 302, The Little Grille has outdoor trailside and railroad trackside eating, Considered the best place for burgers.
Not to be missed: Chutters Candy Store, on Main Street, home of the world's longest candy counter (112 feet), 500 different types of candy.

Town of Whitefield
The route goes right past an ice cream store (Triangle Dairy Bar and Seafood Restaurant) and Dunkin Donuts at the corner of Route 116 and Route 3. In addition, there is Sunny's House of Pizza and R-Place Bagel Shop and Deli on the town green, along with Subway and Cumberland Farms.

Along the Route in the Jefferson Valley
The Israel River Campground has a basic camp  grocery, ice cream Dixie cups, cold beverages, canned goods.

Old Corner Store About a mile north of the trail is the village of Jefferson (on Route 2) where there is a general store and a bakery. The downhill cruise back to the trail is spectacular, and worth the side trip!

Town of Gorham
The route on the Presidential Rail Trail will not take you into the town of Gorham. The best way to access the town for food and lodging is to use a traffic-free recreation path and back road that takes you from the Presidential Rail trail into the town onto Route 16.  If food or lodging is desired, an off-road bike path access to the Town of Gorham is available across from the Route 2 trail parking area. Access this pathway at the western end of the parking lot, carefully cross Route 2 and go around the metal gate marking the start of the route. Cross the bridge, travel downhill and eventually though a small neighborhood near the airport, arrive at Route 16 then take a right. Use care when riding Route 16, it is a busy main road through the town. Ride single file on the shoulder. There are many restaurants along Route 16, also pizza, fast food and ice cream. For coffee and a bakery, check out White Mountain Cafe and Bookstore.

NOTE THAT GOING EAST BETWEEN GORHAM AND BETHEL or GOING WEST BETWEEN GORHAM and THE ISRAEL RIVER CAMPGROUND THERE IS NO ACCESSIBLE WATER OR FOOD!  Stock up before you do this epic section!

Town of Bethel, Maine
Many places to find good food, bakery treats, coffee, gelato and ice cream. There is a Dunkin Donuts right on the trail, but all other restaurants are just a short distance from the end of the trail at Davis Park. Use caution when riding Route 2 or on Route 26 into the center of town.
Check out the Smokin' Good BBQ Truck at The Good Food Store just north of the trail on Route 2. For a good cafe/bakery, try DiCocoa"s Market and Bakery in town (coffee, excellent bagels, pastries, gelato, etc).
